The Talamanca River.
The Boruca Indians are a composite (Coto, Turrucaca, Borucac, Quepos, and Abubaes) indigenous tribe of fierce fighters that won their freedom against the Spanish invasion of the 1600s. Today, they imbue their art with the devilish and powerful spirits of their ancestors, creating colorful and sometimes crazy masks and other objects from balsa wood. You can see my ongoing collection below. I’ve loved the art and the southern zone of Costa Rica since we first stepped foot on the expansive jungle beaches. But today, you’ll see the mountain backdrop. Follow my feet…
Do you see the narrow road following the precipice of the Talamanca mountain spine in the distance? There are moments of terror and moments of awe as you progress towards the Boruca Village.

Those masks are wonderful. And such an intrepid journey to get there.
The journey to this Indian tribe interests me immensely. I’ll read the link later at my leisure.
Your trip was something special. I no longer have the confidence to do it for health reasons. All the more thanks for sharing with MosaicMonday
Have a pleasant week. Greetings from Heidrun
Lovely scenery photos!
Incredible detail and color on those masks! Wonderful that this culture has managed to survive.
Nice greenery
What a beautiful and colorful collection. I started collecting them too, but I didn’t pursue.
BTW, I just got back from a week in Costa Rica. Way too short.
Fascinating Boruca masks! Love the intricate designs and colors.
