Cano Island: Part 1

“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island.” ~ Walt Disney

For months, I wondered if my arthritic feet would survive fins (hallux rigidus or stiff big toe arthritis), and, oddly enough, I had no problem whatsoever. Go figure? Walking hurts like hell. I guess I need to spend more time snorkeling. 😊

We left remote and rustic Drake Bay, Costa Rica, with Utopia Drake Outdoors, run by a pretty guide with long flowing hair and a baby in tow—only in Costa Rica! Passengers included a mix of eager divers and snorkelers, tanned from sun and fun. It didn’t take long until our first whale sighting. I only brought my tiny water camera, so I simply enjoyed the moment and didn’t try to snap photos. Once we arrived at Cano and hit the water, we snorkeled for an hour and thirty minutes in the lukewarm, murky waters. It may not look like we saw a lot, but we did—schools of big fish, sharks, and many leatherback and hawksbill turtles. Swimming, snorkeling, and taking photos simultaneously is not easy, so forgive the grainy images and follow my fins…

We saw a whale breech and flap his tail, right about here. That’s Cano Island in the distance.

Here’s our snorkel guide, bekoning us forward.

We saw sharks!

We saw lots of turtles.

Here’s my favorite photo. Stay tuned for part 2!

Last week, I mailed ten books to the winners of my Valentine’s Day Goodreads Giveaway. 5,427 readers entered the contest. Yay!

Your snorkeling photos do look fun, I love seeing all the fish. Maybe not the shark so much.
