Day 12.
Scarlet Macaws and such.
We finally made it to Cano Island! I’ve wanted to go ever since seeing the misty blue island in the distance when we’d hit certain elevations on a clear day. Last year, we discovered that Cano was only an hour off the coast of Drake Bay in the Osa Peninsula. This year we booked a stay in DB and a snorkeling excursion on Cano.
Costa Rica Bucket list complete.
Recently, I wrote a short story called The Whale Rider, about a dark and epicurious mermaid that takes place near Cano Island. After donning a snorkel mask this week, I realized I still have a little mermaid in me.

Day 16
Launch!
I painted this ornament for our Christmas tree. The backdrop is the starfish rug on my lanai. Turns out, the coral around Cano is brown, and the clouds don’t spell Cano. But it’s still magical.
Day 17
The coral might be brown, but the fish are colorful! I can’t wait to share the photos from my seldom used water camera.
Day 18
Sunrise in the Northern sky of Drake Bay, Costa Rica.
Stay tuned for the final CR week of 2025, with much more Costa Rica highlights to come later.
Such beautiful photos of a magical place. I love the sky in the first photo.
