Our time in Duluth was a blast that ended with a bang (see the scary end of this post), and no, I’m not talking about our Fourth of July trip to the Northshore. We savored BBQ brisket and fry bread tacos at our favorite restaurants, drank in the tastiest views, and even found a few undiscovered Minnesota places. In September, the purpose of our trip is the Northshore Inline Marathon. Slow and steady wins the race, and we’ve been steadfast fans of Duluth since we ate our first Lake Superior Agate. The candy kind! Follow our feet…

My husband has raced the Duluth Inline Marathon for 23 years.
This is a real photo, slightly enhanced. Below, you’ll see another version of the swirling water foam.
Behold, we’re alive and intact. During the drive home, a truck’s trailer kicked up a steel bar that flew directly into our SUV. My husband stayed the course, even though he could have been impaled. The fact that the object bounced off the hood may have slowed the trajectory. Life can change in an instant. Later that week, the glass installer that fixed our windshield said he’d never seen an actual hole in the glass, which would take almost three tons of force. The hole is in the lower right. Uff da lutefisk! We had to pull over to shake the tiny glass shards off ourselves.
Don’t forget to order my book!
Oh wow! What an ending to your adventure! So glad you are both fine. Hugs
Wow, that’s really scary. I’m glad you both weren’t hurt. So many dangerous things on the road.
The photos you’ve shared are stunning! Your storytelling style is engaging and makes me feel like I’m right there with you on this adventure. It’s fortunate that you both came out of the steel bar incident unharmed.
Hello :=)
Very creative images, and wonderful photography. The pen and ink drawing with all the animals is lovely. Your husband is a good driver to keep the steering of your car steady when your windscreen was hit. I’m glad you were unharmed.
All the best.
The swirling sludge and the shattered glass photos are fantastic (and the shark’s teeth rocks were interesting0. Glad you were ok. Very artistic post.

OMG! That incident was scary! I’m glad you both weren’t hurt.
That photo of the swirling foam is amazing!
Hugs and blessings, Sharon
What a scary tour. Hope you are well. But of course, I believe you was shocked.

Have a wonderful week, greetings by Heidrun
Who’d of thought Duluth could be so much fun.
Glad you guys are okay after that steel bar hit your car. Life does change in an instant doesn’t it?
Wow, is that ever scary!! So glad you are both safe, and great job by your husband of not panicking and staying the course. Oh, and I really like your photo of the 800′ cargo ship!
Oh Heaven’s to Betsy! Glad you are both ok. You both are troopers to keep on the journey. Be safe. See you next week.
From joy to near tragedy in an instant and I am so relieved that neither of you were hurt. The foam pictures are stunning – I’ve never been to Duluth (and have only been to Minnesota once) What a post!
Oh my goodness, you are so lucky to be alive. I can’t even imagine the terror of that experience. As far as Duluth, I’ve been there multiple times but was unaware of the “sharks teeth” or “tunnel”. I’ll have to look into that!
Oh my gosh I’m glad you guys are OK! Scary stuff for sure. Loved the virtual Duluth tour (until that ending) and now I don’t feel like I can truthfully say we’ve been there because we obviously missed way too much.
