We spent Labor Day weekend in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, close to my hometown. During our holiday, we socialized with my cousins, spent an evening with an old friend, picked blueberries at Cain’s Orchard, and biked one of America’s best bike trails: the epic Elroy Sparta Trail The trail is the first rail-to-trail biking route in the world and a must-see for bikers. Three long, cold, dark, wet, and canerverous tunnels resemble hell’s esophagus, and you must walk your bike through the mouth and out the other end. Our back-and-forth trip resulted in a mile of tunnel exploration, and thirty miles of biking round trip. Since it was almost 100 degrees the day we biked, the cold tunnels felt refreshing. Follow my wheels…
In Kendell, we passed a small town parade. You can see the bike trail between the Clydesdales. This is where we had our picnic lunch and we could hear police sirens, marching bands, and country music as the parade passed by.
I love this whimsical saying on the wall of our rental.
This was the coveted item of the weekend, since it was hotter than hell.

What a great way to repurpose old rail lines. So many cyclists around nowadays, many would love such things.
…it’s good to see that there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
Wonderful photos from your trip. I like the views of the trail and tunnel. The blueberries look yummy.
The pretty horses and the parade looks fun. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post.
Take care, have a great day and a happy week ahead!
There are bike trails on the west coast of Florida in at least 3 counties that were once railroad tracks. It’s a great idea! Wonderful photos!
It’s a beautiful trail. I’ve walked through short ones on rail trails, not any like these. I wish the blueberry picking was still going on where I live in New York State but our season ended about three weeks ago.
Thanks for sharing your adventures and photos. Your insights make for delightful reading and viewing. Congratulations on the upcoming book launch!
I am totally jealous of your bike ride, especially through the tunnels. Such an adventure. Plus all the other things you saw on your trek. We have a pretty decent rail to trail bike trail near Tulsa but it is nothing like yours.
Gosh, Sharon, you had a glorious trip! The tunnels DO look like “hell’s esophagus”! I bet it took a long time to construct them. Back-breaking labor, I’m sure.

My youngest son is into bike riding.
Coffee is on, and stay safe.
There are many other interestings things here to see, to read. I enjoyed your post again.
Thank you for sharing, Sharon and being part at
