We toured the Utah Canyonland’s Shafer Road from top to bottom and from bottom to top. It was the highlight of our trip! I can’t top the photos from last time, but of course I’m sharing new pics anyway. Our second trip traversed the desert from the river bottom to the rim. The road is bumpy, dusty, and nail-biting. But most of all, it’s surreal. Follow our wheels…
Our car was covered in red dirt from top to bottom.
Back to the rim…
The dueling drives were the highlight, but the view is the pinnacle and the precipice. Stay tuned for more from Moab!
Wow! Utah really is moving up my ‘must visit’ list!

Wow. What amazing scenery.
Those views are breathtaking. You both look lovely in the photo.
I never get tired of the country in southern Utah. You have really captured its beauty.
What beautiful, unusual (for me) scenery. Utah is such a beautiful state. Alana ramblinwitham
Wow, Sharon, your Shafer Road adventure looks incredible! The combination of bumpy, dusty roads with those breathtaking views must have been quite an experience. The red dirt on your car is a testament to the epic journey you had.
It is spectacular scenery and reminds of similar red rock landscapes I experienced around Sedona, AZ many years ago. I remember how hot it was, and I can almost see the heat waves shimmering off the rocks in your pictures!
I checked out Schafer Canyon Road on Google Maps. Parts of it look beyond nail-biting… moving into the truly scary range! Thanks for braving it and sharing these remarkable photos!
Lovely are to explore.
Amazing scenery, it’s like no other place I know of. Thank you for sharing this phenomenal landscape.

Looks like an Alien planet to me.
Beautiful photos! I’ve never seen those types of landscapes in person.
Oh I love Utah! Such a unique landscape. I can only imagine how scary that road was.
