We returned to Shark Valley with our bikes and our alligator repellant. The repellant worked because we didn’t see nearly as many gators. Twenty, thirty, perhaps? Last time, I lost count at sixty sunbathers. Did you know that alligators have a bite force of 2,125 psi? Grizzly bears will nibble at 1,160 pounds per inch. Sharks? Who knows? I learned this trivia from author C.J. Box, author of Three-Inch Teeth.
We brought a Publix subway sandwich to sink our teeth into, enjoyed a picnic lunch, and then did another peaceful lap. But like I said before, the drive through the Everglades is the real highlight.

This former irrigation pipe shed is the smallest post office in America. The tiny Ochopee Post Office has been in continuous use since 1953. It would be fun to mail postcrossing cards from here. Or my novel, or anything! Bucket list.

An impressive journey. I’m wondering why it’s called Shark Valley, although there are mainly alligators there. I knew that these reptiles have enormous biting power, but I didn’t have a comparison. Thanks for the information. I would avoid alligators as I have a huge respect for these dangerous animals. So of course it’s all the more interesting to get a first-hand post about them.

That’s quite a ride. And that is lots and lots of gators.
I love the observation tower that it looks you can ride up on. On our last trip to Bentonville, Arkansas there was a bike friendly mid rise office building. It had ramps one could ride their bikes on to get to all the floors.
Seeing the Everglades is on my bucket list. Beautiful photos. Love the tiny post office!
