Single Staycation

Have a meaningful Memorial Day.

So what did I do alone for a whole week? I walked around Lake of the Isles, my favorite Minneapolis lake, with my friend Lisa, so obviously, I wasn’t entirely alone. I have so many good memories here. When I retired as a Flight Attendant many years ago, I relished my freedom to write, create art, and enjoy the outdoors. I’d rise with the sun, head to Franklin Street Bakery, purchase a chocolate espresso twist pastry, eat it at the lake, and then walk with the rising sun. Lake of the Isles is the home of my favorite little library. I always check the moldering stash, then read in the blue Adirondack chairs with a beautiful lake view (not shown). I finally left my book here, something I’ve meant to do since becoming a published author. Doesn’t my book match the theme and colors perfectly?

I strolled through the Rose Gardens at Lake Harriet, and brought the book The Sky Vault by Minnesota author Benjamin Percy to read amid the blooms.

I love alliums!

I walked several times at Wood Lake and snapped a photo of a snapping turtle on the move to lay eggs.

Look at the size of this family!

Wild roses at Wood Lake.

When we moved to our home in 2000, my inlaws gifted this legacy iris from my husband’s grandmother and her long-ago garden. I’m posting it in honor of my mother-in-law, who passed away on my birthday in March 2024. RIP Patt.

This is how my garden grows. Click the image to visit Mosaic Monday.

Have a meaningful Memorial Day everyone.
