Vizcaya

This man had quite the bizzness...

You can spend hours meandering the 50 acres inhabiting the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, and I’d encourage any visitor to investigate online to learn more about the history. It’s the former home of Tycoon James Deering, who earned his fortune through McCormick and International Harvester. The estate’s name refers to the northern Spanish province Biscay, “Vizcaya,” in the Basque region along the east Atlantic’s Bay of Biscay, as the estate is on the west Atlantic’s Biscayne Bay.

The estate and gardens are tropically elegant—breathtaking really—and not to be missed during your stay in Miami. Even though many people milled about, I snapped as many photos as possible. The grandeur spellbound me. Follow my feet…

Visit Mosaic Monday.

  1. That’s a lot of stuff to pack into a house and garden – even if its a big house and garden!

  2. Another wonderful contribution for MosaicMonday. Thank you so much for your participation.

…Interesting! And very nice that the public can participate in this possession. Despite all my admiration, I still wouldn’t want to live there.

    Greetings from Heidrun

  3. These photos are stunning! How did you manage to capture such beautiful details amidst the crowd? I’m dying to go there and pretend I’m a millionaire from the Roaring Twenties. Maybe I’ll even spot a ghost or two!

  4. I love it when gazillionaires leave their estates to the enjoyment of the public when they are gone. Tulsa has several exquisite properties left by oil tycoons from the 20’s.
This property is spectacular. I had never heard of it. Now I got a new bucket list item
