If you missed my book cover reveal last week, preorders started on March 1st at Ten16 Press. Hooray! My book is underway.
This week, we’re in Tucson, attempting to escape as much winter weather as possible. Look to day six to see how that worked out for us.
It’s been cold. Even so, it’s not as cold as Minnesota. And the temperature is ideal for hiking amidst the prickly desert environment, full of towering ancient saguaros, thorny ocotillo branches, and melting paddle cacti that have seen better days. The air is dry. If you’re lucky, you might see a string of scampering quail. We saw a coyote outside our window. And one-morning last week, our hosts at Mesquite Hills warned us not to go into the yard because a whole pack of coyotes were near the chicken coop. “Wait until they jump over the wall!” they said.
“Okay,” we replied. 😊
Follow my feet…
The Cascabel trail.
Saguaro National Park.
Historic Tombstone is nestled between mountains.
It snowed in the desert. We took an early morning hike before it melted, and experienced a winter wonderland. The saguaro looked like a prickly snow cone.
Hoodie dog.
The Tucson Botanical Gardens had an unpaid visitor.
Sunrise! Stay tuned…
It can get cold in the desert. Getting any precipitation is cool. Snow just looks so weird.
Absolutely gorgeous!
Enjoy the warmer weather, wait did I see snow?! We’ve just had snow in the UK this morning which is late and unusual too. It looks really interesting out there with a light sprinkle of snow!
Have a good day!

Beautiful.
Hello,
Tucson is on my list of places to visit. Gorgeous sky capture, I love cactus and the snow images. Cute birds and a cute doggie in the truck.. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, I am sorry I am late commenting!
What a great getaway, I am totally jealous.
When I was a kid up in the White Mountains of Arizona, we got Tucson television but we never went there. It was a lot closer to go to Phoenix.
I love snow in the desert.
Gorgeous sunrise. Snow in the desert is so incredible when it happens! Saguaro are not native in my local desert, so they are a treat to see!
Despite the cold you got some beautiful photos. I love the look of snow in the desert and your last photo is just stunning.
This is one place I want to see someday. I think winter is the best time to visit it since I reckon it would be too hot to do so in other times.
Congrats on the book.
Worth a Thousand Words
Love the cactus — and all the scenery brought back lovely memories. We spent two snowbird seasons in Tucson and enjoyed it very much — had a wonderful RV Resort to stay in , lots to do and it was close to both parts of Saguaro NP, great hiking. Nothing at all wrong with it! And we liked the City. Bill just likes being on the water better (he does not count the three swimming pools and the hot tubs our resort had!). …. I do remember that we had to have the fireplace on in the morning on a lot of the days we were there, no matter how hot it got later on.
