Crazy Woman Cottage

The magic of the first day of a trip...

The best amenities at Crazy Woman Cottage, our rental in Moab, belong outdoors. Hello, 1980; you can have your lumpy, hard mattress back. Beyond the bed, the place is fine, but the outside is really where it shines. You can see the snowy peaks of the La Sal mountain range out the front door, and opening the sliders out back dumps you onto a local trail system that meanders to a globby, craggy mesa. We hiked the trail on our first full day and investigated ancient petroglyphs that few tourists get to see. The sun sets over the canyon at day’s end, and the sky glows orange until much later when the dark Moab skies reveal bright stars. Follow my feet…

Tumbleweed abounds.

The desert varnish is faded and worn, but it still reveals Native American pictographs and petroglyphs.

The big-headed floaters look like aliens!

I love the long row of horses or mysterious creatures.

Stay tuned for more from magical Moab, Utah. I’m sending my April newsletter next Monday, and explaining how the desert influenced my book cover art. So subscribe on my homepage for the secret scoop!

  3. Sorry, I don’t know why the link doesn’t work. Of course you and your lovely post are welcome.

And I am happy to read here. It’s really exciting for me. The cave paintings are beautiful, what a feeling it must be to stand face to face with these drawings. I get goose bumps. I would love that too and maybe there’s more to tell about it?

  4. I’ll take a lumpy bed to get those views any day! Love those glyphs. The glyphs in that area are unique, and very different from those I see in the S CA desert.
