We ate pizza at the Stone Barn, in the countryside near Nelson, Wisconsin. And…
we rolled around the Mississippi, and the Root River, along with many other tributaries over the last nine days. I love my ebike! It takes me where I want to go. Last week, we biked five times on our favorite midwest trails: twice on the Root River State Bike Trail, once on the spooky Elroy Sparta State Trail, once on the Great River Ridge Trail, and lastly, once on the Douglas Trailhead. We accomplished this by staying in Winona, La Crosse, and Rochester, home of the Mayo Clinic. Winona got the short shrift, and I wished we could have explored that Minnesota town better. I don’t take that many photos on bike trips because I’m rolling too fast to slow down. But here’s the scoop. Follow my wheels…

We biked the Root River between Peterson and Lanesboro. They had chocolate mud pie in Whalen, and I didn’t eat any. F*&%!

We visited Granddad’s Bluff in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

We watched ducklings follow their mother through an exspansive lawn, over and down a wall, along a walkway and into the Mississippi. Mosaic Monday.

We walked our bikes through a 3/4 mile long tunnel on the Elroy Sparta Trail. I always take a photo at the entrance of the old railroad tunnel where there is still daylight, because once you enter, the only light is the one you carry. We illuminated my bike’s light, and when I reached the middle of the tunnel, I saw a shadowy figure move from right to left. Except, when we passed, no one was there. (they’d be standing in water, anyway) There were no oncoming bikers, either. Was it a trick of light, mist or fog? Or a ghost? I’ll never know for sure. But since I’m a supernatural writer with no other paranormal experiences, I’m going with ghost.

Here lies a table devoured by green. Picnic, anyone?

We traveled 200 feet below the earth at Niagara Cave near Harmony, Minnesota, and traversed hundreds of steps to see waterfalls, 450-million-year-old fossils and rock formations on a mile long hike. It was awesome! And a puffer climbing out.

Free books at a park in Rochester. I took Mrs. Poe.

Preston, Minnesota is known for hosting the largest concentration of Chimney Swifts in Minnesota. We biked between Fountain and Lanesboro, and had a picnic lunch from The Peddle Pushers Cafe, as always. Plus, ice cream. 🙂

Chorus of Crows at the Elroy Sparta Trail. Spooky!
“It’s a book that asks you to sit with discomfort, to listen to the echoes between the lines, and to question what’s real right alongside its protagonists.” ~ Jenn Bailey

What a great shots. I want to explore here and I want to take a cruise on that beautiful vessel. How fun.
