El Yunque National Park

Why is El Yunque the only tropical rainforest under U.S. Forest Service jurisdiction?

El Yunque is the only tropical rainforest under U.S. Forest Service jurisdiction. That’s because it’s in Puerto Rico! We could see the cloudy, craggy peaks outside our condo rental, but we could only see the eco-rich jungle up close with boots on the ground once. Last-minute personalities? Forget about it. Thirty days before you’d like to visit El Yunque, you go online bright and early to reserve your only spot—no more, no less.

Before we entered the park, we stopped at a lookout, and a weary traveler approached us to lament his nonreservation status—no park for him. But we saw it. So follow our feet…

Bano de Oro (bath of gold) is a swimming hole that was built in the 1930’s along the Rio Bano de Oro river where gold was mined by the Spaniards.

A heart shaped beehive!
