El Yunque is the only tropical rainforest under U.S. Forest Service jurisdiction. That’s because it’s in Puerto Rico! We could see the cloudy, craggy peaks outside our condo rental, but we could only see the eco-rich jungle up close with boots on the ground once. Last-minute personalities? Forget about it. Thirty days before you’d like to visit El Yunque, you go online bright and early to reserve your only spot—no more, no less.
Before we entered the park, we stopped at a lookout, and a weary traveler approached us to lament his nonreservation status—no park for him. But we saw it. So follow our feet…
Bano de Oro (bath of gold) is a swimming hole that was built in the 1930’s along the Rio Bano de Oro river where gold was mined by the Spaniards.
A heart shaped beehive!
Beautiful. And good tip about reservations. I had no idea you had to book your spot that far in advance.
Great thinking to book ahead of time. The place looks so inviting. The heart-shaped hive is pure sweetness!
Hello,
Beautiful photos of the rainforest. I like the mural of the parakeets. The heart shaped beehive is a cool find.
The swimming hole looks inviting. Great photos! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a wonderful week.
I’ve never made it to Puerto Rico but this park is really gorgeous. I’d love to spend time there.
Wow, what a place, that I had never heard of before this post. It pays to check out things in advance!!
Such an amazing park!
Your photos are always a treat, Sharon.
Happy Friday!
Looks like a beautiful place to visit. Love the mountain peaks that look like a face.
Great views.
That’s a strict reservation system! I’ll bet a lot of tourists miss out. A friend of mind recently moved to PR. Hoping to visit him some day.
What a beautiful park.
Coffee is on, and stay safe.
Great photos.
That’s an important tip about reservations, it would be a shame not to enter this National Park. Lovely that we could join you for a wander!
