Sugarloaf in Sedona

Sedona's Spectacular Sugarloaf Trail.

Sugarloaf rose to the occasion last March as my husband’s go-to trail. It was in our rental’s backyard, with different routes that offered diverse hiking difficulties. I chose the most accessible path, and every trail offers a unique perspective on the town. In a way, all the trails look similar. You’ll see the same grizzled and grey tree bones and agave spikes that resemble the devil’s powder puff. Obviously, everything is a variation of red. But the sameness doesn’t take away from the desire to explore every dissolving stone or bristly brush.

Follow my feet…

Later that day, we took a scenic drive behind Cathedral rock, and around town. Spectacular.

What would it be like to live here?

  1. What gorgeous trails to have in your backyard. I don’t think I’d get sick of seeing those sights, even if they did end up being the same no matter the trail.

  2. Wonderful pictures. I visited this area about 10 years ago – it’s wonderful – and I recognis(z)e some to the places. Hope all is well. SM

  3. Stunning photography — super have that as your very own temporary ‘backyard’ — what an amazing place for a vacation location. The trails seem like the kind of terrain that could serve as an inspiration for a fantasy author! And I bet they did.

  4. Sedona is such a beautiful part of AZ! I’m reading and enjoying your book — my last book club book was a biggie–900 pages– so it bogged me down a bit.

  5. Wow, talk about being built right into the rocks!! Beautiful photos of an amazing place. That opening in the hillside in the first photo is just begging to be explored!

  6. I haven’t been to Arizona in about 45 years. This scenery is spectacular and I love how the colors changed with the sun angle (as the day progressed) It would be quite a vacation spot.
