“Fishing is boring, unless you catch an actual fish, and then it is disgusting.” Dave Barry
We watched the stinky activities from a cowardly and respectful distance while taking photos. Every night, boats ply the waters around Dominicalito, Costa Rica, and the nocturnal fisherman don’t return until morning. From the jungle hillside above the beach, we watch the boats depart at sunset, and then later, after dark, we count the number of lights and note their location. We always wonder what they’re catching, and sometimes when we walk on the beach at sunrise we find out. On this day, it was orange roughy.
The fishermen’s kids helped to clean and carry every fish to a refrigerated truck. But I don’t need to describe the process because you can see it all here…
“Last year I went fishing with Salvador Dali. He was using a dotted line. He caught every other fish.” Steven Wright

Your post on fishing had me hooked from the beginning! I couldn’t resist a fishing pun. Your witty writing always makes me smile. Great pics!
Hello :=)
Great atmosphere in your photos, and colour. It looks like it was a good catch. The fish are enormous! The way they are carried, much like a bag with handle is interesting.
That was some big fish
Interesting that they are out fishing at night. Love the first quote!
I love the photo documentation of Costa Rican life. So very colorful and interesting.
Worth a Thousand Words
I”m all about catch and release when I go fishing these days. Of course people doing that for a living don’t have that option.
Who needs weight training when you’ve got fish this big?!
Have a lovely day Sharon.
