Looks Beautiful!

"Should you shield the canyons from the windstorms you would never see the true beauty of their carvings." ~
Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Last week, someone left the comment, “Looks busy,” to describe my Miami post. I suppose the city is busy. Sigh. But the comment left me deflated, as some brusque comments do. I take pride in my photos and hope my short and snappy commentary entertains. I’d love to write more, but I find that most people are just here to skim the pictures and don’t actually read what I write anyway. Well, what I really wanted the person to say was, “Looks beautiful!” So today, I posted a place that will leave no doubt in readers’ minds that, yes, indeed, this is a beautiful place. Of course, some might think it resembles the devil’s caldron. It does. And perhaps I’ll get the comment, “Looks pointy!” Because Mother Nature chisels those hoodoos in all kinds of shapes, points, and drizzles. Bryce Canyon, Utah, is a mystical and magical realm created through the ions. I think it’s breathtaking. Follow my feet…

Looks dead.

Looks black. (Except for the red dirt around its beak)

Looks see-through.

Looks red.

Looks vertical.

Looks deep!

Mosaic Monday. Here’s some photos from my two author events at Books On Third. My first event was on my mother’s birthday. During my second event, I wore my mother-in-law’s pearl necklace to bring me luck, and I tried to get a selfie to show it off. Thanks Patt. I think it did. I sold lots of books! My friend Liz stopped by and grabbed her book, West 4th and Bank Street off the shelf, too.

I have one more holiday event on Facebook at the T.A.L.E.S. Reader Appreciation event this Friday at Ten.

  1. Hello Sharon,
Bryce Canyon is beautiful. It is one of my favorite parks to visit and amazing park for hiking among the hoodoos. Great capture of the Raven? I enjoyed your Miami photos, I am not a city girl and prefer parks like Bryce. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy December, have a great week ahead. PS, thank you, I appreciate your comment.

  2. I know sometimes I have a hard time coming up with a comment, so my comments may come off as brusque. I don’t mean them to be. I mean to say “hi, I was here and I read your post”. It is stunning scenery.

  3. Thank you for your collage of the reading! It was definitely a successful event. I really enjoy readings. These events are far too rare here, and I can hardly remember the last one. I would love to read aloud to a small group myself, for example from old books that I still have from my grandfather…

…thank you also for your impressive nature photographs… sharing them on
    MosaicMonday.

The formations are breathtaking. I will probably never be able to travel there, as my health makes it impossible. That’s why I love our weekly posts. The exchange between us!

    Best regards from Heidrun

  4. Beautiful photos, Sharon! The colors and composition of your photos are stunning, and your captions made me chuckle 😉 We have not yet ventured into any of the national parks in Utah, and we hope to remedy that next year, as we love visiting national parks. I have to time it when the Rockies are drive able ( no snow storms) but before the summer heat arrives as I don’t tolerate high heat well.
I am always grateful for a comment on my blog, but have to have comment moderation on so I have to approve each comment as often some try to leave ad links in the comment.

  5. Haha! Well, since we’re on the subject of short comments, I’d say:
    Looks WOW!
That’s what my husband and I said several times in 2012 when we stood on the edge of Bryce Canyon and later when we hiked through it. This place left a lasting impression on us that we’ll never forget.
In any case, don’t let ultra-short comments bother you. There are people who appreciate words, people who appreciate pictures, and people who appreciate numbers. Very few people are all of them at once.
All the best and a wonderful Advent season 🕯️✨❣️, Traude

  6. That is a gorgeous place. Nothing like pine trees on red rock to get me going.

I’ve been known to write short comments, if it were me, I really apologize for deflating you.

  7. Bryce is such a beautiful place and your photos captured it well. I wish you much success with your book events! Thank you for linking up and have a great weekend.
