I wanted to hike that tiny tunnel!
One hundred people lost their lives building this modern marvel, an arch-gravity dam in Black Canyon. The Hoover Dam is located near Boulder City, Nevada, about thirty minutes from Las Vegas. We finally witnessed its concrete splendor! And toured the Martian sights around the canyon and Lake Mead environs. Follow my feet…

Lake Mead. It’s surreal.

Wow!

This is the windy dam overlook, along a busy highway between Arizona and Nevada. There’s a short, steep and twisty hike to the platform.

The plumbing.
The dam attracts around seven million tourists a year ~ much less than our recent Powerball jackpot!

Someday I hope to attract millions of readers! But that might be hard since reading for pleasure has decreased by 40% in the past twenty years. Sigh.

My husband’s grandfather was a lineman who worked on the dam. Seeing the photos I can see why this was such an impressive feat.

Hello Sharon,
We all wish we could have won the powerball millions. Great captures of the Hoover Dam and the little ground squirrel is cute. Great collection of photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great day and a happy week! PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
Amazing engineering feat – I just imagine them sitting around in the office planning this one out! Lovely to have been there! Have a happy week.

I want to get there someday. But in the winter. I don’t know if I want to be outside there in the summer.
That tiny tunnel hike sounds fun! You both look so happy! Millions of readers or not, the ones who find your writing are lucky.
We’ve not been there is years. It’s a most impressive place to explore.
Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ♥
Beautiful photos of the dam and surrounding area. We had a cruise from Los Angeles to Hawaii so stayed in Las Vegas for a few days first and took several tours from there. I just looked up when it was, and it was in 2009! I thought about 10 years ago if anyone had asked! They were building the new road bridge when we were there. I am mildly claustrophobic as in I can’t be in an enclosed space on my own, but I did go down the elevator inside the dam where all the workings were.
Por lo que he comprobado en las imágenes , es una grandiosa presa. Conozco algunas no demasiado lejanas al lugar en done resido. Es una buena solución para el abastecimiento de agu de la población.
Buenas vistas desde el mirador de la presa.
Saludos.
An incredible sight! I guess the bleached rocks show historical water levels. Quite amazing!
Amazing.
This is beautiful.

Incredible views and what a feat of engineering. Thank you for linking up.
It’s an impressive structure.
Such a beautiful pictures, that place is amazing! looks like you really had a great time im so happy for you.
I’ve never been to Las Vegas but would like to one day. For gambling I would find the penny poker machines and I would definitely like to see the dam and the lake.
Many many (like over 50) years ago, I went to Hoover Dam. We went down inside the workings. It was an amazing thing to see, especially after traveling in the desert to get there.
