Valley of Fire

“One must never let the fire go out in one’s soul, but keep it burning.”
~ Vincent van Gogh

We stopped by Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada on our way to Bryce Canyon last summer. We didn’t have time for a hike, but we drove through the park, hitting all the visual highlights. Ancient petroglyphs, petrified trees, dissolving rock faces, and painted desert ensued. Follow our feet…

This texture looks like Freddy Krueger’s face.

Petroglyphs for Mosaic Monday.

I always bring my book and leave a copy somewhere along my travels. A promo photo near petroglyphs is a perfect pairing because the spirals I’ve seen in many southwestern petroglyphs inspired my book cover.

Stay tuned for much, much more from Utah and Arizona.

  1. Another fascinating trip. And the reference to Freddy Krueger naturally makes me smile.

It’s a truly charming idea, dear blogfriend Sharon, to leave one of your books here and there. I’m sure there’s a grateful reader out there.

Thank you for your post on MosaicMonday.

  2. Sharon – until I lived in the desert, I never thought much of it. Then we were blessed to spend three years in Gilbert, Arizona before that area exploded. Hikes in the Superstition Mountains gave me a new appreciation for the beauty of rocks!!! Your photos are gorgeous!

  3. What a beautiful set of photos! I especially love the shot where the texture “looks like Freddy Krueger’s face”, you have such a fun imagination!

  4. Beautiful shots of a beautiful place. Hubby and I would love exploring here. What a fun adventure.
