Desert Snow

Tucson was colder than expected in March, and a beguiling snowfall proved it.

Tucson was colder than expected in March, and a beguiling snowfall proved it. Even so, we knew we had to hike bright and early to experience the desert wonderland before it melted. Luckily, the Cascabel Trail was right across the street. When the sky brightened, we slipped into the saguaro, touring the cactus garden and taking a brisk photo safari.

Follow our feet…

Above, young saguaro congregate under a tree like cold children waiting for the school bus.

Later that day, we toured the corny and depleted Colossal Cave. The best part was this view because the calcified tips of most mites and tites were taken (not stolen since they were given away freely) as souvenirs by early visitors.

Hooray, my book blog tour is underway! I have a long literary journey ahead, and author Joie Lesin flagged me for my first book stop. You can read my interview on her creative writing blog. She asked fresh questions and it was fun. Thank you Joie!

  1. Marvelous and magical photos. I’ve only seen snow in the desert a few times but snow on sandstone rocks and the desert is special. You captured that.

  2. I really am going to try to get some snow shots this winter! Lets hope for cold weather!

Hope all is well. Cheers Stewart M – Melbourne

  3. Beautiful captures. My husband has a cousin in Tucson; we were there once but it was in September. I would have loved to see this snow in person.

  4. Gosh! The images are so surreal and the cacti really stand out in the snow. Congratulations on your book, Sharon. And thank you so much for stopping by my blog.

    Happy tidings!
