While staying in Kanab, Utah, we drove through Johnson Canyon, with a map in hand, marking ten spots worth noting. One observed the ruins of the real-life set from the old television show Gunsmoke. They filmed many outdoor scenes in Kanab, while interior scenes took place in Hollywood. “Mister, you’re going back pig or pork, now make up your mind!” ~ Marshal Matt Dillon

A horse, of course.

Graffiti and petroglyhs.

Watchful critters.

A lizard for Mosaic Monday.

Highlights from a short and sizzling trek into Lick Wash. We returned later that week, early, when it was still cool and crisp, ventured further, and I took many more photos. So stay tuned!

“In CHORUS OF CROWS, Sharon Wagner wonderfully weaves the humorous, the haunting, and the human. This novel is as much about growing old as growing up, written with absolute confidence. The world could use more books like this.

  5. My husband and I watched many GUNSMOKE shows with Marshal Dillon, the Doc, and Festus. Great background shots of where many segments were filmed. I learned something today that I didn’t know. Interesting images you posted.

  6. There’s something quite engaging about walking through filming locations and real landscapes side by side, especially in a place like Johnson Canyon where history, nature, and storytelling all seem to overlap. The mix of humour, classic TV references, and rugged scenery gives it a strong sense of character.
