Needles: Part 2

"Should you shield the canyons from the windstorms you would never see the true beauty of their carvings."
~

Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

We passed Wilson Arch on our way to the Needles district in the southeast corner of Canyonlands National Park. So often, tourists don’t have time to visit anything but Arches National Park, and that’s too bad because there’s so much to enjoy in Canyonlands. This post continues our quest to see it all but not to hike it all. Not with my crappy feet. Follow my lens…

On a previous day, we hiked to the end of the distant red mesa behind the gnarly tree bones, and looked out upon this sea of striated stone.

Needles. I love this photo.

Ancient hand prints

Yes, I climbed this ladder!

A gnarled tree skeleton.

  2. The dead tree looks as if it died in agony. The rock formations in the photo above the handprints look like giant toadstools. I hope one day to visit Canyonlands and Joshua Tree.
