A rainbow tapistry in progress…
We visited mountain relatives of our hotel host, and dined on fresh caught, pink-fleshed trout and delicious local potato soup. The group learned about their fabric art and danced while adorned in rainbow colored and extremely tight, festive apparel. Yes, the experience was slightly cheesy, but also profound: entering a local abode, tasting their comfort food, and for a moment, living like a local. The fabric of Peru, made from the softest Alpaca and Llama wool, is an explosion of color. During the trip, soles flew from my pockets like I was on a roller coaster, and sometimes, I bought things I didn’t necessarily want or need. But there’s no doubt the handmade goods are beautiful.
Upon arrival, we all received dried potato necklaces like a lei in Hawaii.

Is that a ghost in the kitchen? Or smoke from the frying trout? Seriously, I don’t know. It’s spooky.
Mosaic Monday. Potato and lima bean soup and fresh herbal tea. I didn’t drink the tea, but the soup was delicious.

Our group of four were dressed in ceremonial fashion and dazzling color. The lady who wrapped my skirt tied it so tight I almost spit up my soup!
After we danced, we shopped.
I bought the pink table runner. But I have no idea where to put it. It does match my flamingo and roseate spoonbill art.
I love this photo of my new friend Moira! She is so fun and sweet. And adorable here. I met her on a writing retreat last year. I hope this isn’t the last trip we take together.
