Sugarloaf rose to the occasion last March as my husband’s go-to trail. It was in our rental’s backyard, with different routes that offered diverse hiking difficulties. I chose the most accessible path, and every trail offers a unique perspective on the town. In a way, all the trails look similar. You’ll see the same grizzled and grey tree bones and agave spikes that resemble the devil’s powder puff. Obviously, everything is a variation of red. But the sameness doesn’t take away from the desire to explore every dissolving stone or bristly brush.

Later that day, we took a scenic drive behind Cathedral rock, and around town. Spectacular.

Stunning photography — super have that as your very own temporary ‘backyard’ — what an amazing place for a vacation location. The trails seem like the kind of terrain that could serve as an inspiration for a fantasy author! And I bet they did.

I haven’t been to Arizona in about 45 years. This scenery is spectacular and I love how the colors changed with the sun angle (as the day progressed) It would be quite a vacation spot.
Sedona has really mushroomed into a great place to visit. So beautiful and such an offbeat vibe to it.
It is hard not to chuckle at the mental image of a devil using the agave powder puff.
