We toured the Sierpe-Terraba Mangrove Reserve while in Costa Rica. 2024 was a year of firsts: we finally witnessed the ancient and mysterious disque spheres found throughout the Osa Peninsula and beyond. (You can actually see the spheres throughout the country, unceremoniously scattered here and there as lawn decoration or festooning town squares and parks) It was the first year we had friends visit from the States. We finally drove the twisty heights aloft a mountain spine to visit the Boruca Indian village, where beautifully carved masks delight tourists. And it was our first Mangrove tour as well.
Most of the wildlife evaded digital capture, and I simply enjoyed things optically. Still, I took photos. Follow my lens…
What lies beneath a bridge? Bats.
An unusual heron.
Cartoonish boat traffic.
Ferry crossings.
I caught swallows escaping their bamboo nest! The guide did not point them out, but my seasoned eyes are keen.
Monkey island.
Do you see a bird? There’s a camouflaged Potoo if you look closely.
Interesting captures.
Sounds like an amazing trip, the camouflaged Potoo is my favorite!
Great photos, I love all the birds. The Potoo is a great sighting, I was lucky to see one in Costa Rica too.
Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great day and a happy week ahead!
Fascinating photos! Thank you for sharing them at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2024/02/meet-forrest.html
Do those bats all fly out at night? I heard there’s a bunch in some city (in Texas if memory serves) that live under a bridge and fly out at night. It looks like they’ve got a nice place to hang around.
What a great trip, love the nature scenes and found the bats rather interesting all on the ground.
I visited you via TRAVEL TUESDAY 433

Very nice river.
What a vibrant journey through the mangroves!
Your descriptions and photos bring the experience to life.
Stunning photos as always, Sharon!
How interesting.
The Potoo blends in incredibly well! Cool seeing those bats under the brige. What an adventure!
I am revisiting Costa Rica (now with friends) in a couple of weeks. Am so excited already.
Worth a Thousand Words
Amazing! Its really remarkable post, I have got much clear idea about from this post.
I just love all the birds, but not the bats, ha ha.
